Firstly, you can care for yourself by keeping your body clean. If you don’t want to walk around smelly, I suggest you create a routine. This routine can be extremely simple but you have to put a little bit of effort into it at least. For my shower routine personally I like to start off by using my african bar soap from shea moisture. Then, I wash my body with my body wash using either my african net sponge or my loofa. Lastly I use a sugar scrub to ensure that I smell good when I get out of the shower. A routine like this daily is bound to help keep you smelling good. I like to use body washes from brands like Native, Method Body, Dr Bonners and Dove. Each of these brands have good things about them. For example, all of Native’s products are plant based, and Dove is recommended by dermatologists. Dr Bonners is good because their body wash does not contain synthetic preservatives or foaming agents like others. Method body is good because in their body wash they use essential oils like avocado and olive oil which is great for moisturizing the skin. I like these products because they keep my body smelling good and they make my skin feel very clean and moisturized. When you get out of the shower though, you should hydrate your skin by putting on lotion. Personally I use and suggest brands like Eos, Native and Victoria’s Secret lotion. These lotions leave a strong scent that follows you wherever you go but don’t make your skin feel dry after. Another important thing you should include in your daily routine is deodorant. Deodorant is good because the purpose is to minimize body odor. Brands like Secret, Native and Dove are good because they have unscented options and it feels comfortable on your skin unlike other deodorants.
There are also other ways to self care like exercising. Exercising is a form of self care because you’re taking care of your physical and mental health. Exercise is good because it can help you sleep better. There are many healthcare services like John Hopkins Medicine who have researched this topic and believe that moderate aerobic exercise can help you get into a deeper sleep. John Hopkins Medicine also says that exercise can reduce stress hormones that can put an extra burden on the heart. They even say that exercise, “improves the muscles ability to pull out oxygen and blood, reducing the need for the heart to pump more blood to the muscles.” You should exercise to keep your heart strong and make it easier for you to do different activities and things you do in your daily life.
What you eat affects things like your weight and blood sugar. Watching what you eat can be good because if you eat too many refined carbs for example you can increase your blood sugar an unsafe amount. High blood sugar can lead to cardiovascular disease, nerve damage and even kidney damage. Refined carbs are in things you may eat daily like cereal, candy, bread, juices and sodas also. According to the National Institutes of Health, eating a diet high in calories can lead to weight gain and obesity. Also eating an unhealthy diet when you’re not active encourages obesity. This shows that exercise and what you eat are connected. Now that you know this you should consider monitoring your eating habits for the betterment of yourself.
