If you find yourself with nothing to do downtown, consider visiting one of the many art galleries in the area! Many people don’t know about all of the art that Frederick has to offer. Here are just a few of the many galleries in Frederick.
Gallery 322 is located at 322 North Market St. The gallery is small but creates a perfect environment to enjoy their monthly showings. Gallery 322 usually shows art from local artists. Starting October 5, 322 has been showing “A Sense of Place” by Maryland landscape painter Lisa Abrams. They usually change exhibitions monthly.
The historic Gaslight House, at 118 East Church St. holds Gaslight Gallery. The house has been restored, and now the historic home serves as a spacious area to view the gallery’s solo exhibitions. Currently, the gallery is showing “Sea Legs”, by Lisa Sheirer, a painting and collage artist. The exhibit’s main focus is awareness of our environment and surroundings.
The Delaplaine is downtown Frederick’s largest, and most well known arts center. Though it is not just a single gallery, it is one of the most influential and important places to view art in Frederick. The Delaplaine features five galleries and holds classes. The Delaplaine is currently featuring exhibits by Rose Jaffe, Studio Arts Quilters Associates, Jim Roberts, and Michel Demanche. Rose Jaffe’s exhibit is a multimedia showcase of his work called, “Harmonious Bloom”. The quilting exhibit showcases DC textile makers and quilters. Jim Roberts’ installation, “Under the Influence” provides a commentary on gun use. Michael Demanche’s, “The Yellow King” is a multimedia examination into politics.
There are even more galleries than these few examples that are worth visiting in Frederick. Frederick’s local art scene has many artists and community members involved and it is definitely fun to explore.
