On November 1, the senior class performed the annual senior assembly. Every year the senior class puts together an assembly for the entire school. This show includes information about Spirit Week and Homecoming, as well as dancing and skits.
Seniors that were a part of the performance, like Theron Correia and Canton Wetzel, say that the last show was the most successful and fun. There was some difficulty with timing and outfit changes, but in all they feel it was successful.
Darion Patterson, a sophomore who saw the first and second shows said that he thought the second show was more successful. He said, “My favorite part was the homecoming court walking the stage.”
Director and writer, Mariela Silva, said the writing process took about two weeks. She said she, “Started with looking at the list of ideas the senior class made and asking friends what they think [she] should keep or add.” She said her, “favorite part was writing the scenes. I honestly had so much fun with it.” Once the script was approved by Mr. Templeton, a senior class advisor, and Principal Dr. Franceschina, Silva could move on to actually putting on the show.
The hardest part for Silva was taking over direction. Mr. Templeton was unable to continue directing after the first rehearsal and Silva had to take his place. She explained, “It was a little frustrating at times since practically everyone had little experience on stage and didn’t understand the ‘basics’ of theatre productions. The second rehearsal and the day of the show were much smoother than that first day,” In all Silva thought the show, “pulled together way better than expected”. She explained with a little more practice the show could have been even better but she, “was proud of everyone for stepping up after the whole incident and coming together to make a really good show.” Some audience members complained that it was hard to hear the performers because of the mics. Silva thanked those working in the booth saying, “We really couldn’t have this show without them. The mic issues were not their fault at all, they’re still having issues with feedback.” Overall, she thinks the show, “was fun and it went great!”
