Does the name Faye Webster sound familiar? If not, you might have heard the songs “I Know You” or “Kingston,” either playing on the radio or used on social media. These are some of Webster’s greatest hits.
The face behind these melodic songs is from Atlanta, Georgia. Webster is an American singer-songwriter and has released five studio albums. She was born into a family of amateur musicians, such as her grandfather, mother, and brother.
When she was only 16, she released her debut album, Run and Tell. Webster had enrolled in Belmont University to study songwriting but soon decided to pursue her musical talents. In 2017, she was signed to Awful Records. In April 2017, Webster went on a 12-city tour with another American alternative musician, Sean Rowe. Webster has released five studio albums, three since 2017. These are Atlanta Millionaires Club (2019), I Know I’m Funny Haha (2021), and Underdressed at the Symphony (2024). Webster gained traction on social media as she puts her inner thoughts and feelings into her music, conveying her raw emotions through lyrics and allow others to find comfort in her alluring vocals. Her songs are beautifully composed and provide comfort to those struggling with heartache. Webster shares in an interview with Spin, “I was kind of looking for other songs that were portraying this really anti-romantic-but-still-in-love feeling, and I couldn’t really find them. So that’s why I wrote that one.”
Some of my personal favorite songs from Faye Webster are “Sometimes,” “Hurts Me Too,” and “Jonny.” Lyrics from Webster’s songs that have stood out to me are: “The last words he said, ‘There are other things out there to see,’ and then he left me for someone who looks just like me,” “I am done changing words just so my songs sound prettier,” and “How did I fall in love with someone I don’t know?”
Faye Webster’s music displays vulnerability that resonates deeply with listeners. Her songs perfectly capture the ups and downs of love and heartache through her lyrics with unique, calming melodies that set her apart from other artists.
