The Frederick Cadets Varsity Soccer team played against Manchester Valley High on Saturday afternoon, September 2nd, in the Central Maryland Soccer Showdown. It was an intense matchup; both teams were very competitive and determined in their plays.
Senior Grant Miller from Manchester Valley scored a goal early on in the game. He used his dribbling skills to blow past Cadet defenders and finish past the goalkeeper.
Cadets Senior Angel Palma scored a goal to tie against Manchester with 3:02 left in the first half. He scored off of a free kick that was given to them when a player from Manchester Valley fouled Luis Vasquez. Palma scored the free kick by aiming towards the top left corner of the goal, preventing the goalkeeper from saving it.
The Cadets Varsity Soccer Team overall played a great game against Manchester Valley High School. They stayed physical throughout the game and were able to keep Manchester from scoring any more goals.
The Cadets are looking forward to being one of the best soccer teams in the county. They have a few key returners for their squad, Edilson Barbosa, Nikolas Gusman, Zander Templeton, Jim Diaz and Christian Duran. They’ve also added a few transfers from Governor Thomas Johnson High School like Angel Palma, Brandon Medoza and Anderson Mendoza. Palma is currently the leading scorer for the Cadets. He had a goal against Middletown and has now scored one today against Manchester.
