The Frederick Cadets were pumped up and ready to go Friday evening as they hosted the Middletown Knights. It was a beautiful evening for football and the Cadets would not let their home fans down.
On the Cadets opening drive, first-year starting quarterback Greyson Rollman took a one-step drop and faked as if he was going to throw a quick pass, but handed the ball off to senior, Newton Esseim. He was coming back across the formation before outrunning Middletown’s defense to the goal line.
The Cadets second touchdown was soon scored by senior receiver Davian Pryor on a quick pop pass from Rollman. He beat the Knights defense to the endzone for a six-yard touchdown.
The final touchdown of the evening was scored by Junior Tyrico Morgan Jr. from an intermediate pass from Rollman. Morgan made it look easy as he flew down the Middletown sideline past all of their defenders for a 64 yard score.
One of the key points that stood out for the Cadets in their season opener was their speed! They were able to blow past the Knights’ defenders easily to get into the endzone to score. They had great defensive plays from Pryor as he had two interceptions.
Frederick did struggle to run the ball throughout the game, despite having one of the best running backs in the county, Tae Anderson. The Knights split through the Cadets on their opening possession. Senior Griffin Sheridan took the ball and rushed through the middle of the field and went on for a 52 touchdown run. Unfortunately for The Knights, they couldn’t put together successful drives and took a loss on their season opener with the final score being 29-12.
