Trevor is still laying in bed after writing the long and strange story in his notebook the night before. He woke up in shock to check the time just to see that it was 7:30AM. That was the exact time that he should get on the bus to school. He looked out the window to see the bus drive off with students in it. He must have forgotten to set the alarm, so he overslept. He went to his uncle’s room to see if he could take him to school, but he had already left for work.
Trevor picked up some random clothes, used some mouthwash, made some toast, put on cologne, and ran out the door.
He didn’t know what to do. Even if he ran, Trevor would still take 18 minutes to get there. He checked his phone to see if there was a faster route to school.
There was only one. It went through the forest behind his house and ended up at the school’s parking lot. Trevor was suspicious of the path, seeing that he’s never seen it before, and he plays and reads in the backyard. He’s never seen a random person walking on the path, and he has lived there nearly his entire life. He went out back to see a worn down pathway leading into the forest. He was weirded out by the vibe of it. On one hand, he could just stay home and get chewed out by his uncle. On the other hand, he could face his fear and probably get to school with minor injuries on the way. He decided to toughen up and head inside the dark forest for school.
At first, he felt nervous, but he pushed forward and went down the path. He started to see weird things while on his walk. He saw crooked branches, jagged stepping stones, and it was like the sun wasn’t shining on this part of the forest. He was halfway on the path when he came across a roaring river. Trevor tried to look for ways around the river, but the only way forward was an old, rooted, and hollowed log on the river.
Yet again, he felt nervous at first. But he decided to suck it up and took a step on it. He hoped for safe crossings, but with every creak and snap, he rethought every step and move he made. As Trevor got off the log, a tree branch fell off from somewhere above and landed on the log, snapping it in half.
It made sure that Trevor wasn’t using this path again.
He kept walking until he found a shiny stone. Trevor tries to pick up the stone, but was cut by it. He stepped back and looked for something in his bag to put the rock in. He then finds a handkerchief in it and goes to grab the rock. He puts the rock in his pocket and continues the walk.
After a while, Trevor checked his phone to see how much of the path he had left to walk. It said that he had to keep going straight. Trevor kept walking straight until he spotted a cave. Trevor checked the phone again to see the directions, but it was saying to go into the cave. Trevor reset the app and tried again, but it still said to go into the cave.
Trevor wasn’t sure if he wanted to go through the cave, but it was the only fast way to school. He saw a tiny, bright light at the end of the cave and decided to push forward once more. Trevor headed inside the cave…
