After more than 15 years apart the iconic “Britpop” band Oasis is finally getting back together. For fans this is monumental; it’s not just a reunion, it’s a rekindling of the magic that made Oasis a massive part of the ’90s. For those who don’t know, Oasis was, but now is, a British rock/pop band formed in Manchester in 1991 known for their iconic songs and contribution to the music scene at the time. However a bitter sibling rivalry between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher would overshadow the bands success.
Oasis burst onto the scene with their debut album, Definitely Maybe, which had hit songs such as “Live Forever” and “Supersonic.” This album would go on to be one of the fastest selling of the era managing to sell 15 million copies Worldwide breaking multiple records in the process
and now sits at 23.5 million copies sold. Their follow up album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory would only further cement them as rockstars, the album contained the iconic songs “Wonderwall”, “Champagne Supernova” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger”.
Despite all this success the band was more often in the news due to the turbulent relationship between Liam Gallagher and his brother Noel Gallagher. Feuds between the brothers would constantly make the news, leading to headlines such as “Cricket-bat bust-up,” in which Noel beat Liam over the head with a cricket bat during the recording of an album. Noel famously compared his brother to “A man with a fork in a soup world.” Constant quarrels between the brothers would ultimately lead to the dissolution of Oasis in 2009. For many years fans of Oasis speculated and wondered if the brothers would ever be able to put their differences aside, however the brothers would continue their antics. Until in 2023 when the tides would begin to shift as the brothers began to speak more fondly of each other publicly.
Finally Oasis fans were put on alert as on August 28th 2024 the official Oasis X account posted a cryptic message, hinting at some big news for the band. This announcement would ultimately reveal the band’s reunion and thus a tour around the UK and Ireland was announced with 17 dates set for the summer of 2025. No one knows if the brothers will be able to keep it together for the tour, but for now fans can only celebrate the idea of the brothers and Oasis getting back together.
